Okemo Mountain Resort

Ludlow, VT 05149
800/78-OKEMO, 802/228-4041
"Cozy" describes this family-owned ski resort, favored for its varied terrain. Very popular with skiers from New York, New Jersey and southern New England, this is southern Vermont's biggest area, with 117 trails and 19 lifts ensuring shorter lines. When you're off the slopes, enjoy a visit to the Green Mountain Sugarhouse (
800/643-9338), where you can learn about Vermont's famous maple syrup (and pick some up for your pancakes) and the famous Vermont Country Store (
802/362-8499), where hard-to-find items of all kinds are available. Here's a chance for all you nursing moms to try out their famous "udder cream," guaranteed to soothe sore and chapped skin!
Okemo's state-licensed childcare program, Penguin Playground Day Care, welcomes children from 6 weeks to 6 years, with special attention to safety and security procedures, requiring identification for parents who are dropping off, picking up, or wishing to spend time with their child during daycare hours. Okemo wins special praise for their childcare registration and pick-up procedures which are orderly and calm, and for the cheerfulness and excellent training of all staff. Hours are daily from 8:00am-4:30pm; rates are $78/D, $58/half day. Call
802/228-1600 to make your required reservations, and the helpful daycare staff will also help parents locate private babysitting if the program is full, or for evening care. Children not interested in skiing can stay at the facility with age-appropriate activities such as Play-Doh, paints, etc. Kids' Night Out, from 6pm to 9:30pm ($30) accommodates children 6 months to 12 years on Saturday evenings. While Mom and Dad enjoy dinner and an evening together, kids enjoy movies, pizza and playtime. During the day, older children can participate in a variety of learning programs including Snow Star Skiers (ages 4-7), Snow Star Riders (ages 5-7), Young Mountain Explorers and Young Mountain Riders for ages 7-12.
